In-Office Gynecologic Procedures

Colposcopy – outpatient procedure that allows evaluation of the uterine cervix

Is a very safe procedure. It allows us to evaluate the cervix with greater detail. This is an outpatient procedure, which means the patient goes home when the procedure is done. A colopscopy should not be scheduled during menstrual period because blood could make it difficult to completely visualize the cervix.

Cryotherapy - freezes a section of the cervix to destroy abnormal cells that show changes

Cervical cryosurgery or cryotherapy is a gynecological treatment that freezes a section of the cervix. Cryosurgery of the cervix is most often done to destroy abnormal cervical cells that show changes that may lead to cancer. These changes are called pre cancerous cells. Your gynecologist will probably use the term cervical dysplasia.

LEEP Procedure - for abnormal pap (cervical dysplasia)

LEEP uses a thin wire loop that acts like a scalpel (surgical knife). An electric current is passed through the loop, which cuts away a thin layer of the surface cells. The loop is inserted through the vagina to the cervix. There are different sizes and shapes of loops that can be used. After the procedure, a special paste may be applied to your cervix to stop any bleeding. The tissue that is removed will be studied in a lab to confirm the diagnosis.

4-Dimensional Ultrasound

4D technology brings fourth dimensional time to ultrasound, this system is a revolution in prenatal care. It provides clear, moving 3 dimensional pictures of your baby. That means a new dimension of information for you and your doctor.
